Referred to as the Evil in the North by the Predties, the Scalid is the image of hell in other cultures. Ruled by massive immortal beasts, who oversee a slave army on a living volcano capable of atrocities beyond most are able to comprehend.
Nigirom, the oldest and most powerful dragon, sits upon his fiery throne, quick to devour any he wishes. It is said that a total of seven dragons came here with the mountain during the week of five suns, but only a few have ever been seen, and none dare challenge Nigirom’s rule.
“Anything of worth is provided to Nigirom, if he is not pleased with your gift, he will devour you on the spot, if one of his officers find you withholding something, they will kill you on the spot and take it. If you flee, they will hunt you and enjoy doing so. Life as a Scalid means you work, your life is short, and there is very little chance of escape.”
-Escaped Elf’s Recap
The Scalid take their slaves, hold ritual sacrifices, and warship their ruler. There is very little chance at a revolution as the slave population could never dare stand up to the massive red dragon who lives within the living volcano.
All disputes are solved by combat to the death, as loosing is punishable by death, submission to any but Nigirom is punishable by death, and if you are victorious, but do not praise Nigirom for your victory, that is also punishable by death. Often times the Half Red Dragon Officers just throw people into the volcano for little to no reason, just to ensure the entire population understands their power.
Often times, when slaves run low, Nigirom sends officers off to capture more, some times sending them on missions to one of the other dragons to relay messages. These are trusted officers that are chosen, but one of the only chances of escape. They do run the risk of angering Nigirom enough to cause him to leave his throne, but that does not seem to have ever happened for longer than a day or two.
